Mary Alice McCormick Porter, Chief of the Year
Nairn Recreation Park, Nairn, ON
Saturday, July 13th, 2013
Hello to all.
Our Stewart family’s Scottish roots run deep. This will be our 86th gathering for good food and fellowship and hopefully to meet some in our extended family for the first time. From the days of the Chief Stewarts, Red Angus, and Jack of the Hill and their many children living in the small farming community of Nairn to their families now living far and wide, we need to remember our Scottish heritage.
In these 86 years, several generations, at least four, have been born. Each generation needs to learn of his roots. My husband Carl and I live in Tennessee and as a child, I heard about my grandparents from Canada. We will have genealogy information available at the reunion and family books and group pictures to sell.
Plan your vacation to attend this year or any year. We always meet on the second Saturday in July. Small interesting towns not too far away from Nairn provide lodging, as well as the bigger town of London, Ontario, where our picnic was held for may years at Springbank Park.
Don’t know anyone, you say? Neither did you know many others when you started school each year. COME and MEET your cousins! If you attend regularly, a few times, or if so far never, we welcome you!
A large number of us must travel to Canada to attend by car and even plane. There are not that many still living in the local Ontario area to plan and lead our reunions each year. To keep having these gatherings requires continued interest and participation. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me.
With warmest regards,
Mary Alice McCormick Porter
